What you have
A hardwood log drilled and packed with shiitake mushroom spawn, then sealed with wax. The spawn is alive and slowly spreading through the wood. Your job is to keep the log happy while it does.
4 simple steps
1 · Shade. Stand or lay it somewhere shady and sheltered — under trees, on the north side of the house, on soil or a pallet (not on bare concrete in the sun).
2 · Keep it damp. Water it like a plant — a good soak once or twice a week, more in dry Florida heat. It should never fully dry out.
3 · Wait. The spawn needs 6–12 months to colonise the whole log. Nothing to do but keep it shaded and watered.
4 · Harvest. When mushrooms appear, pick them by twisting at the base. To trigger a flush, soak the log in water overnight, then rest it a few days.
Timeline: first mushrooms in ~6–12 months · flushes every few weeks in cool, damp weather · keeps producing for 3–5 years.

Su Tronco para Cultivar Shiitake

Qué tiene
Un tronco de madera dura perforado y rellenado con micelio de hongo shiitake, sellado con cera. El micelio está vivo y se extiende lentamente por la madera. Su trabajo es mantener el tronco feliz mientras lo hace.
4 pasos sencillos
1 · Sombra. Colóquelo en un lugar sombreado y protegido — bajo árboles, al lado norte de la casa, sobre tierra o un palet (no sobre concreto al sol).
2 · Manténgalo húmedo. Riéguelo como una planta — un buen remojo una o dos veces por semana, más en el calor seco de Florida. Nunca debe secarse por completo.
3 · Espere. El micelio necesita de 6 a 12 meses para colonizar todo el tronco. Solo manténgalo con sombra y agua.
4 · Coseche. Cuando aparezcan los hongos, recójalos girándolos por la base. Para provocar una cosecha, remoje el tronco en agua toda la noche y déjelo descansar unos días.
Tiempos: primeros hongos en ~6–12 meses · cosechas cada pocas semanas en clima fresco y húmedo · sigue produciendo por 3–5 años.
